Amazon’s COVID-19 Testing Privacy Policy

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Amazon has implemented important measures, including a COVID-19 testing protocol for associates and contract workers who enter its Operations and Data Center facilities. Such testing enables Amazon to continue to protect the health and safety of our associates and contractors, their families, and the communities in which we operate; satisfy legal obligations; and take steps to limit the spread of COVID-19. These steps are important given that individuals with the novel coronavirus may be asymptomatic, yet still spread the virus to others. This testing will also provide you with the opportunity to be aware of whether you have the novel coronavirus so that you can take steps to care for yourself, your family, and your community.

This COVID-19 Testing Privacy Policy (“Testing Privacy Policy”) describes what information Amazon uses and collects in relation to COVID-19 testing, and how we will use, share, and protect that information.

What personal information will we collect, use, and/or share, and why?

In connection with COVID-19 testing, Amazon, or third-party healthcare service providers on Amazon’s behalf, will collect, use, and/or share, in accordance with this Testing Privacy Policy, your:

  • Personal identifying information (full name, legal sex, birth date, home address, telephone, email, and other information required to be collected by federal, state, or local law);
  • Amazon identifying information (if available/existing - badge ID, employee ID, alias);
  • Date of registration;
  • Information regarding potential coronavirus symptoms and sources of exposure;
  • Sample information (location where sample taken, date, collection method (nasal/throat/saliva));
  • Testing information (test type (e.g., PCR/POC), test result, date of result, whether you viewed your test result online, whether clinician provided results to employee via phone, date of outreach call, and number of calls).

Certain of this information is already in Amazon’s possession, while other information will be disclosed to Amazon by such third-party service providers.

We will use your information:

  • To determine your eligibility to take the test;
  • To permit third-party service providers to register you for, and provide results from the test;
  • To restrict your access to our facilities, if the test is positive;
  • For Amazon employees, to process leave or benefits, if your test is positive;
  • To provide you information regarding your test results;
  • To administer the testing program and evaluate safety protocols.

In the event you test positive, Amazon may also collect additional information you provide directly and voluntarily, such as information about with whom you may have had recent contact related to your work.

We will use this information and any positive test results as needed to take steps to protect our workforce, families, and community, including disinfecting facilities, and informing potentially affected individuals to provide support and guidance, and advise them of potential risks.

With whom will we share your personal information?

Amazon will share certain information described in this Testing Privacy Policy with the third-party service providers performing the testing, who are bound by contractual confidentiality obligations with Amazon to protect your information and to restrict their use of your information to the purposes of the contract. If you are a contract worker, we will also share this information with your employer(s), if any.

We will keep your test results, and other personal information collected in connection with this Testing Privacy Policy confidential, and will not share it with any other personnel or third parties unless necessary to accomplish the purposes consistent with this privacy policy, for example, where required to disclose to health authorities. Where we need to inform other personnel of your situation, we will do so without revealing your identity unless there is a legal or medical reason that requires it. The information collected may also be anonymized or aggregated and used internally by Amazon for purposes such as workforce management and planning, and may be reported inside and outside of the company for purposes such as public health awareness and business updates.

How do we secure and retain your personal information?

Amazon will use appropriate and reasonable technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information from loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction, and will restrict access at the company to those who need to know the information. Your personal information, other than such information that otherwise is in Amazon’s possession, will only be retained until the COVID-19 crisis is over, at which time Amazon will securely destroy any data collected.

You may receive a copy of this policy, or ask questions about it, by contacting your Human Resources representative or, for Amazon Flex delivery partners, by contacting amazonflex-support@amazon.com.
